In spite of it
being in the month of March, the days in southern Iran were getting
warm. Activity came to a near halt during the heat of the day.
While wandering around Bam's small market area, an older man led me
to a hidden and windowless tea room deep in the labyrinth. An
Afghani man sat quietly, his right leg severed at the knee wrapped
in a blood-soiled cloth, gave me no notice even after it became
common knowledge that I was an American. |
