There is a large Assyrian Christian population that lives in Iraqi Kurdistan.  Although there are tensions at times between them and the Kurds, their rights are explicitly protected under the Iraqi Kurdistani constitution and the populations seem to coexist comfortably.  I happened to be in Dohuk on 1 April, the Assyrian New Year.  These images are from their celebrations.
