In the spring of 2007 I had the pleasure of spending a couple of days wandering about the Jemel Samaal Region of Syria, north of Aleppo, an area peppered with Kurdish villages.  Daniel Demeter (www.syriaphotoguide.com), a young American who was photographically documenting little known Byzantine ruins in Syria and knew the area intimately, was inordinately kind in allowing me to accompany him.  Thank you, Daniel.
